TRANSFER APPLICATIONS: The ABGA Transfer Application is available for those selling an animal but who do not have the original Certificate of Registration available. A statement of why the original Certificate is not available is required with a Transfer Application. Otherwise, the seller must name the buyer, sign and date the “Transfer” section on the back of the official Certificate of Registration to officially transfer the animal. Transfer Applications and other ABGA forms are available online HERE. When you submit forms or applications to the ABGA office, please check that they are filled in completely. This reduces processing time and ensures your information is accurate. The use of correction fluid (White Out) or any other medium invalidates ABGA Certificates of Registration. This includes transfer information written on the reverse side. The seller may "correct" the mistake on the Transfer portion (back) of a Certificate with a single line drawn through the mistake and the seller's initials. ABGA SANCTIONED SHOWS: If your show points are missing from the Blue Screen or are not calculated correctly, we may be waiting for the results from your show secretary. Show secretaries have 30 days after the show to submit results to ABGA. Contact your show secretary FIRST if your show points are missing. For more information, please see the ABGA Rules and Regulations. RE-TATTOOING ANIMALS: If an ABGA registered animal requires re-tattooing, the new tattoo must be placed directly on top of the old tattoo. FROM ABGA'S DNA COMMITTEE DNA is in every living thing and is the code made up of repeating units called “base pairs” known by the first letter of their name: A, T, G, and C. There are several technologies used for DNA testing, but in livestock, two of the more common technologies are Microsatellite testing which counts the number of repeating segments, and SNP (Single Nucleotide polymorphism, pronounced “snip”) Testing which looks at the content of the DNA or what the actual A, T, G, or C is at a specific location in the genetic code. Most livestock species have switched to SNP technology because it has applications beyond simple parentage testing thus allowing the determination of genetic condition status, physical trait status, and improving the accuracy of traditional Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs). Here is a list of the acronyms you see regularly: DE – Dam Excluded DQ – Dam Qualified OT – Original Test PE – Parent Excluded PQ – Parent Qualified SE – Sire Excluded SQ – Sire Qualified SNP (pronounced ‘snip’) – Single Nucleotide Polymorphism A dive into genomics is available HERE. For more information on applications specific to goats, read HERE, HERE, and HERE. REQUESTING DNA TESTING? According to ABGA Rules and Regulations, members cannot request DNA testing for animals they do not own. For more information, see the ABGA Rules and Regulations. Some ABGA Registered animals born prior to 2012 do not have a DNA profile on record available for parentage testing. Please email dna@abga.org with the ABGA registration number of the animal in question to find out if that animal has DNA available for parentage testing. 2022-2023 JABGA NATIONAL SHOW PUBLIC SPEAKING TOPICS Junior Division: “Why is it important to keep your feed buckets, water troughs, and facilities clean?” Intermediate Division: “Why is it important for Boer goats to have correct breed standards?” Senior Division: “What advice would you give to younger members in the JABGA?” JABGA REGIONAL SHOW SERIES SURVEY All members have received a JABGA Regional Show Series Survey via email. TRANSFERRING ABGA ANIMALS: There are ONLY three ways to transfer animals from buyer to seller with ABGA: Via Certificate of Registration: Find the ‘Transfer’ section on the back of the Certificate of Registration. Provide the name and ABGA member number of the buyer (or name and mailing information, if the buyer is a non-member). Provide the seller’s signature & date of purchase. Via Transfer Application (available HERE): Transfer Applications are required if the original Certificate of Registration is not available. Transfer Applications MUST be filled out completely and include: Goat Information (including name, registration number, both ear tattoos, and animal’s date of birth). Seller information (including name, member number, signature, and date of sale). Buyer information (including name, member number, signature, and date of sale). A statement explaining why the original Certificate is not available. If the buyer is a non-member, a complete mailing address is required in place of a member number. Via Online Live: Sellers can transfer animals to buyers through Online Live if the buyer is an ABGA member. ABGA members cannot transfer animals to non-members through Online Live. RE-TATTOOING ANIMALS: If an ABGA registered animal requires re-tattooing, the new tattoo must be placed directly on top of the old tattoo. According to the ABGA Rules and Regulations, the Certificate of Registration must be returned to ABGA, and the Certificate is reissued to reflect that the animal has been retattooed. For more information, see the ABGA Rules and Regulations. REGISTRATIONS: We are currently processing work submitted on November 1, 2022. We would like to welcome 95 new members who joined ABGA and JABGA in the month of October. We’re glad you are part of our ABGA family!
