    2022 - 2023 JABGA Public Speaking Contest Electronic devices will not be allowed in the holding area or contest room. Materials: two 3 x 5 note cards can be used, absolutely no outside materials are allowed. Excessive reference to notes may result in deduction of points and the use of visual aids may not be allowed. Dress: There is no required dress, but it is important to keep in mind that appearance is important. Nice jeans, boots, and button-down shirts are suggested. Each contestant must make the presentation without a microphone. Contestants shall not be penalized for moving about or using (or not using) a podium. Contestants will be penalized one point per second on each judge’s score sheet for being over or under the time allowed for each speech. Ties: in the event of ties in public speaking, they will be broken by comparing scores in the following judging sections: Content Delivery Language Junior Division No less than 3 minutes no more than 5 minutes. Additional 5 minutes will be given for related questions asked by the judges. Regional Show: Why is it important to keep your feed buckets, water troughs, and facilities clean? National Show: How do you keep a Boer goat healthy? Intermediate Division No less than 4 minutes no more than 6 minutes Additional 5 minutes will be given for related questions asked by the judges. Regional Show: Why is it important for Boer goats to have correct breed standards? National Show: What can you do to raise awareness in the goat industry? Senior Division No less than 5 minutes no more than 7 minutes Additional 5 minutes will be given for related questions asked by the judges.   • 2023 National Show Boer Goat Photo Contest

    ABGA and JABGA are excited to offer a Boer goat photo contest for both adult and Junior members at the 2023 ABGA & JABGA National Show. The goal of the contests is to highlight talented individuals in the communications industry through their use of photography. JABGA Photo Contest Rules: One winner from each age division will be chosen. Winners will be announced during the JABGA Awards Banquet on Thursday, June 15th. All contestants must be members of JABGA. Divisions are: Junior (4-8), Intermediate (9-13), and Senior (14-18). Only two photos per contestant is permitted. All submissions must be printed on an 8”x10” canvas or frame. All entries must be submitted by Tuesday, June 13th at 12pm. All photos must highlight the American Boer Goat. Photos may be taken around the farm or at an event. The American Boer Goat must be the focus of the picture. Photos may not be enhanced or edited, in any way. The Champion Overall Photo will have the opportunity to be featured in the ABGA Digital Magazine. All pictures may be used by the ABGA/ JABGA office for publication and promotions. Adult Photo Contest Rules: This contest will be a fundraiser for the ABGA Foundation. The winning photo will be calculated by the amount of donations received. The winning photo will be auctioned off during the awards banquet on June 15th. 1. All contestants must be ABGA members. 2. All submissions must be printed of an 8”x10” canvas or frame. 3. All entries must be submitted by Tuesday, June 13th at 12pm. 4. All photos must include the American Boer Goat. 5.   • National Show Eligibility & Entry Dates

    The 2023 ABGA & JABGA National Show is just around the corner. Be sure to have your goats registered and entered on time! ABGA & JABGA Animal Eligibility Competition is open to goats registered in the Herd Books of ABGA. No entries will be accepted until the animal is first registered in an ABGA Herd Book. Work orders must be submitted to the ABGA office by May 15, 2023 11:59 PM (CST). Entry Information Your entries and payment must be submitted by May 22, 2023 (11:59 PM CST) to avoid late fees. All entries received between May 23 - June 1, 2023 will be charged a $20 late fee per entry. No entries will be received after June 1, 2023.     The Old Timers Show will take place at the National Show on Friday, June 16th during the lunch break. All funds will benefit the JABGA. Cost: $10 to enter $100 Exempt Pass $50 to get off the list Cannot be entered more than 4 times, per person To enter or purchase Exempt Passes, visit the show office, Monday-Thursday, during office hours. This is a family-friendly event, all participants must act in an appropriate manner.     ABGA is excited to present the official logo design for the 2023 ABGA and JABGA National Show. This year’s design was submitted to our National Show logo contest by Chris Ryals and received a whopping one-half of the current National Show committee’s votes. He will receive an awesome ABGA “swag bag” and ABGA-wide bragging rights. Congratulations, Chris!   • Meet the 2023 ABGA and JABGA National Show Superintendents

    SAN ANGELO, TEXAS --- The American Boer Goat Association (ABGA) is pleased to announce the selection of three Superintendents for the 2023 ABGA and JABGA National Show. The 2023 National Show will be held at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky., on June 10-18, 2023. Jesse Kimmel, Tara Hicks, and Zeb James were selected by ABGA's National Show Committee from an applicant pool of seven individuals and approved by the ABGA Board of Directors at their regular monthly meeting on January 10, 2023. John Blackstock and Joe Airoso were selected as alternates. Superintendents play an important part in the success of the ABGA and JABGA National Show by ensuring exhibitors adhere to ABGA National Show Rules and welcoming exhibitors to the show ring. Because of the nature of the position, ABGA and JABGA are thankful for the time and dedication of these individuals before, during, and after the National Show.   • 2023 National Show Internship

    The ABGA takes great pride in providing exceptional learning opportunities that offer real-world applications. The ABGA hopes that our intern’s knowledge and experience gathered during their time at the National Show continues to be applied to the outside world and to their future endeavors. This Is an unpaid Internship role. Hotel and food costs will be covered daily. Position: National Show internship Location: Louisville, Kentucky- Kentucky Exposition Center Dates: June 9-18, 2023 Program Purpose: The purpose of the ABGA and JABGA National Show Internship program is to provide a learning experience for recent high school graduates (18+) and/or those interested in the American Boer Goat Association. Also, to provide The American Boer Goat Association with assistance in planning and managing show coverage. Eligibility/ Requirements: Applicants must be a 2022 high school graduate (18+) or older. Applicants cannot be exhibitors or competitors at the 2023 ABGA and JABGA National Show. A candidate with prior show experience is a plus. Must be able to provide own means of transportation to the National Show at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Applicants should possess excellent communication skills with a strong work ethic. Self-motivation and the ability to work on a task with minimal supervision is ideal. A positive attitude and organization are beneficial. Applicants must be available to work the entire length of the National Show. Internship Program: The intern will assist the JABGA board and the ABGA office staff with specified tasks during the weeklong internship. Interns must provide their own way to the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky on June 9th, 2023, and will work through the duration of the event to June 18, 2023.     Are you a graphic design guru? Ready to let your artistic light shine? ABGA is now accepting submissions for our 2023 National Show logo contest. Your design could be selected as the official logo of the 2023 ABGA National Show in Louisville, Ky. On top of bragging rights, the winning design will receive an ABGA “swag bag.” Logo designs must: Incorporate a “KENTUCKY DERBY” theme. Be formatted in a 16:9 (rectangle) or 1:1 (square) ratio. Be submitted as high-resolution PNG files with transparent backgrounds (PREFERRED). Be received by JANUARY 3, 2022. Submit your logo designs to nationalshow2023@abga.org by JANUARY 3, 2023.   • 2023 National Show Costume Contest

    This show is a fun-filled experience for exhibitors as well as spectators! All JABGA members can participate. Both the goat and the exhibitor should dress for the occasion. The Costume Contest will take place at the National Show on Thursday, June 15th during the lunch break. Divisions: Junior Intermediate Senior Two prizes will be given per division: judges choice, and people choice. Exhibitors are required to show their goat in a halter or lead, and must maintain control of their animal at all times. This is a family-friendly event, all participants must act in an appropriate manner. Inappropriate costumes or behavior may be disqualified at any time by ABGA/ JABGA Staff or Board Members. #2023NationalShow
