  • Madison Reis

Board Member, Area 1 Madison Reis currently serves as the Reporter for the Junior American Boer Goat Association (JABGA). She is a senior at Whitney High School. Reis spent much of her childhood entrenched in agriculture and showing alongside her parents and grandparents in California. When her grandfather moved into the goat industry shortly before her birth, it was only natural that Reis would take up breeding, raising, and showing registered Boer goats when the time came. In addition to goats, Reis has also shown beef cattle. Outside of showing, Reis currently serves as President of her local 4-H club. She enjoys spending her free time outdoors, and likes hunting, camping, fishing, and hiking. After graduation, Reis plans to study pre-veterinary medicine, specializing in large animals, to learn more about genetics, artificial insemination, and embryo flushing. Reis is excited to help JABGA build more benefits for its members, and to continue creating a welcoming and invested organization for current and future members. #JABGA #JABGABoard

  • Avery Holman

Board Member, Area 3 Avery Holman currently serves as a Director for Area 3 for the Junior American Boer Goat Association. Holman began showing goats at age six, before pivoting to focus on her own market animals. Her show string grew to include market goats, market lambs, breeding heifers, and occasionally, pigs. Prior to showing goats and other livestock, Holman showed Tennessee Walking Horses. Holman rekindled her connection with JABGA last year and rejoined the organization in 2021. Holman is a senior at Boyle County High School; she currently serves as Secretary of the FFA chapter there and competes on the school’s swim team. She also serves as a camp counselor for YGB livestock camps. In the future, Holman plans to earn a degree in nursing and work as a traveling nurse. As a current JABGA member who left and rejoined the organization, Holman hopes her unique viewpoint can assist JABGA in improving its member experience, and she’s excited to help make JABGA “better than ever.” #JABGA #JABGABoard

  • Jo Stevens

Jo Stevens currently serves as a Director for Area 5 for the Junior American Boer Goat Association. Stevens grew up in Cisco, Texas, and now lives in Zephyr. She is currently a junior at Mullin High School in Mullin, Texas. As a fourth-generation farmer, breeding and showing animals like Beefmaster cattle, American Quarter Horses, rabbits, and goats comes naturally to Stevens. She gives much credit to her mother and her agricultural science teacher (ABGA Director Gage Taylor) for guiding her into the agricultural field and, eventually, JABGA. After her mother purchased a paint Boer doe named, Princess, Stevens became engrossed goat production and JABGA. She has previously served as a JABGA Director for Area 5. Her younger brother, Wyatt Stevens, also serves as a JABGA Director for Area 5. Stevens currently serves as the President of the Mullin FFA; the chapter maintains a community garden, which produces fresh fruits and vegetables for the community. She also works as a K9 obedience trainer for Kanati Kennels (her favorite breed to work with is Labradors). Outside of agriculture, Stevens is interested in zoology, travel, art (painting and drawing), and fashion. She is still exploring options for her future career, including studying abroad to complete agricultural research. As a JABGA director, Stevens is excited to watch the industry continue to flourish and hopes to pave the way for more opportunities for breeders in the commercial goat sector. #JABGA #JABGABoard

  • Wyatt Stevens

Board Member, Area 5 Wyatt Stevens serves as a Region 7 Director of the Junior American Boer Goat Association (JABGA). He is a sophomore at Mullin High School. Stevens was raised on a cattle ranch and became comfortable around livestock while riding horses and working cattle. He was introduced to Boer goats when his sister (JABGA Director Casey Jo Stevens) received her first goat in 2011. Stevens followed suit by first raising an ABGA-registered bottle kid, and then a JABGA bred and owned doe. That doe earned over 500 points during her show ring career, and Stevens’ passion for the show ring and JABGA grew too. Stevens loves connecting with the small community he lives in and is involved in FFA. He also plays football, basketball, and runs track for his high school. After graduating high school, Stevens plans to attend Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas to study mechanical engineering. He went into business raising goats last year, focusing on wethers for students interested in showing: “I wanted to raise a good wether that can compete but not cost a student a fortune.” Stevens is excited to meet other JABGA members in his region, as well as across the organization, and help serve members as a JABGA Director. #JABGA #JABGABoard

  • ABGA Broadens Horizons with Wether Incentive Program Ahead of National Show

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – The American Boer Goat Association is pleased to announce an added incentive program to the wether show by introducing the Boer Goat Advantage (BGA). The Boer Goat Advantage (BGA) wether incentive program will give wether goat breeders the opportunity to register their animals in ABGA’s herd books while donating a portion of their registration fees toward the incentive fund. The Registration fee per wether is $15.00. Five dollars from that fee will be issued toward the incentive fund, which will be utilized to offer cash and other prizes for the ABGA wether class at the ABGA and JABGA National Show and regional shows. Along with many other breed registry programs, the BGA wether incentive program comes with added marketing opportunities both in and out of the show ring.
